The dynamics of the T20 format have changed drastically, with teams always looking to post mammoth totals on the scoreboard. 

However, a huge score in the first innings doesn’t always guarantee an easy victory. The reason is that teams are getting better at chasing down targets, no matter how big or small the total is.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has also witnessed teams set massive targets in front of their opponents. But, on some occasions, the chasing teams have come out all guns blazing, ing the highest run chases.

262: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hold the record for the highest successful run chase in the IPL. KKR chased down the mammoth target of 262 runs set by the Punjab Kings on April 26, 2024.

2: The Rajasthan Royals chased the target of 224 runs not once but twice. First, they chased down 224 against Punjab in 2020, breaking their previous record of 217 runs set in 2008. Later, in 2024, RR equalled their record by chasing 224 against Kolkata.

6: The 2024 encounter between Kolkata and Rajasthan saw two centuries scored in the match, making it only the sixth instance in the IPL. Batting first, Sunil Narine brought up his maiden IPL hundred (109), and later, Jos Buttler helped RR thrash the target with his unbeaten 107.

262 runs scored by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are the highest in an unsuccessful run chase in the IPL. RCB fell short of 25 runs while trying to go past the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s total of 287 — the highest team total in the league’s history.
