Gujarat Titans (GT) started their IPL campaign on a memorable note by winning its maiden season in 2022 and becoming the runners-up in the following edition. While they didn’t qualify for the knockouts in 2024, Gujarat would be pleased with how they fared in their first IPL cycle. They had a solid team in the first 2 seasons before moving into a transition phase in the third.
The former one-time champs will be eager to build a strong squad for the next set of IPL seasons and that starts with the retentions. In this article, we will list out the possible retentions that could be done by the Titans ahead of IPL 2025 auctions.
Shubman Gill
India’s emerging batting hope, Shubman Gill was named the skipper of Gujarat Titans’ team in IPL 2024 following the departure of their former captain Hardik Pandya. Though the franchise didn’t have the best of time, finishing with just five wins in the league stages, Gill had an amazing season personally. In his debut season as a full-time skipper, Gill accumulated 426 runs at a useful strike rate of 147.40 with a solitary ton. Overall, the 24-year-old is the highest run-scorer for the team since its inception, having scored 1799 runs in just 45 innings with four centuries.
Rashid Khan
One of the greatest bowlers of all time in the shortest format of the game, Rashid Khan has been a prolific wicket-taker for the Gujarat franchise since ing them in 2022. He has picked 56 wickets at an average of less than 24 with an ER of 7.68 after playing 45 games, to go with 323 runs he scored with the bat down the order. These numbers make him an integral part of the GT setup and is a player who is certain to be retained by the franchise along with Gill.
Rahul Tewatia (Uncapped)
Rahul Tewatia has proved himself to be a useful all-rounder who can strike big hits at will and at the same time, can bowl his leg-breaks if required. Though his batting position doesn’t let him score a truckload of runs, Tewatia has created a significant impact with the bat for Gujarat over the last three seasons. In 31 innings he batted for GT, the left-hander has struck 492 runs at a strike rate of close to 148 and has played a significant role in getting his side home several times.
David Miller (RTM)
One of the most sought-after T20 players in the world, David Miller has been a constant figure when it comes to IPL. The destructive middle-order batter had played for Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals before ing GT in 2022 and has played 130 games in this cash-rich league. Of the 2924 runs he has made in the league, 950 of them came while batting for Gujarat Titans and he has done so with an astounding strike rate of 145.26 while averaging 45.24 in just 41 games.
These numbers are staggering and Gujarat wouldn’t want to leave out their match-winner. They would ideally want to retain him or in the worst case, effect a “Right to match” for David Miller.
